Ruby Beil grew up learning to play and sing by ear; her musical family
exposed her to everything from classical to bluegrass to jazz and blues,
and they taught her fiddle at age 5. It was around age 12 that Ruby
discovered the darker side of rock and roll, first started fantasizing of
an all-women band - and from then on there was no turning back. She started writing
lyrics at age 17, and when she moved to Ithaca, NY, in 1996, she developed
her fiddle style to accompany her unusual voice and began performing
solo. Ruby started her first rock band in 1998 - BLIP - who had a
short but memorable ride. Hometown Erie, PA,
band,
Nostromos, began when
she returned briefly in 2000-01. The group is still alive and kicking, playing a
few shows a year. The Witching is Ruby's first collaboration with women in rock, and she is
thrilled to be back in Ithaca and living her rock and roll dream.
